The Playstation 5 goes on sale, officially, tomorrow, and with that, those who pre-ordered will finally reap the benefits of the debacle that took place on the day of the reveal while everyone else will be taking on their own battles, with bots and scalpers, trying to obtain a console through their safer online-only distribution. But with all of the buzz surrounding the next generation of consoles, what will that mean for its predecessor, the Playstation 4?
It goes without saying that the power of the PS4 is something that can't go unmentioned as the console helped bring titles like Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and Ghost of Tsushima to life; however, now that there it's younger brother is coming to town, how long with the console have left before the phasing out is completed?
According to an interview with AV Watch and Sony Interactive Entertainment Vice President Hideaki Nishino, the transition will be both shorter than expected but perhaps a bit longer as well. When asked about the transition of consoles, Nishino stated that "The current assumption is that the transition from PS4 to PS5 will take about three years; in the meantime, how can I keep buying games on PS4? Can the purchased games be played on PS5? That is important." Three years may be more than enough time to get games caught up to the technology the PS5 can handle but could that be too soon for the beloved console (you can read the full interview right here ).
Come tomorrow, the landscape of gaming will change yet again, but that doesn't mean that what came in the past will be irrelevant. We would love to hear what you think of the news and the new console and games in the comments below!
The Playstation 5 will go on sale through online only distribution on November 12th!
