Tetris Effect was announced right before E3 2018, uniting the legendary creator of
Rez and
Child of Eden Tetsuya Mizuguchi with the same developers that worked with him on
Rez Infinite and
Lumines, two wonderful puzzle video games based on sound and light patterns. Supporting PS VR,
Tetris Effect is a brand new take on the legendary puzzle game that has finally launched exclusively for PlayStation 4.
According to the man himself, "
Tetris Effect is designed to maximize the magical, scientifically-proven aspect of Tetris that it’s named after." Apparently, a group of researchers has discovered that people who play classic
Tetris a lot are slowly starting seeing images from the game in real life, and
Tetris Effect is all about recreating that feeling right before your eyes in full HD on PS4 and 4K on PS4 Pro.
According to the first reviews,
Tetris Effect is a modern masterpiece, as the majority of critic seem to agree that Mizuguchi's new game is a bravura reinvention of a classic game that deserves to be recognized as a series peak. Currently sitting at an amazing 89% score on Metacritic with 36 counted reviews,
Tetris Effect is the ninth best-reviewed PS4 game of the year that shines in this launch trailer:
Tetris Effect is Tetris like you've never seen it, or heard it, or felt it before—an incredibly addictive, unique, and breathtakingly gorgeous reinvention of one of the most popular puzzle games of all time, from the people who brought you the award-winning Rez Infinite and legendary puzzle game Lumines. Fully playable on either a standard display (up to 4K and 60fps on a PS4™Pro), or optionally in mind-blowing 3D on PS VR.
Tetris Effect is available on PlayStation 4 & VR NOW!
