It's been known for a while that with the next generation of gaming consoles will come a slight price increase for certain blockbuster titles. Sony is the latest to confirm it will be raising the price of its first-party games on the PlayStation 5.
In announcing pricing for the console, Sony also revealed that its Worldwide Studios titles will be priced from $49.99 to $69.99 on PS5. This is a $10 increase from what premium AAA games currently cost on PlayStation 4.
Worldwide Studios titles are Sony's first-party games from developers like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studios, San Diego Studio, Bend Studio, Sucker Punch, and Insomniac Games. Sony only revealed pricing for its PS5 launch day games which includes a $69.99 price tag for Demon's Souls (Bluepoint Games/Japan Studio), Destruction All Stars (Lucid Games / XDEV) and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition (Insomniac Games). The standard edition of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will only be priced at $49.99, which makes sense given that it will also be available on PlayStation 4 and feels more like a glorified expansion. Based on this initial lineup, it seems like most first-party games from Sony Worldwide Studios will at least release on PS5 with a $69.99 price tag moving forward.
Sony also confirmed that the PS4 digital versions of launch games will include a free upgrade for both PlayStation 5 consoles. If you buy the PS4 disc versions of these games, you'll be able to use the free upgrade for the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive.
The PlayStation 5 will launch on November 12 at $399 for the PS5 Digital Edition and $499 for the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc Drive.
