Thanks to Sony and Santa Monica Studio, we've been getting quite a few Behind the Scenes videos that expand on the game-developing process behind the next
God of War.
Today we dive deep into the process of voicing Kratos as Brazilian voice actor Ricardo Juarez tells us about lending his voice for Kratos in the Portuguese dub.
"
The First thing I noticed about Ascension and the new God of War is that until now we only knew the Kratos that killed and screamed all the time and on the new God of War he is more calm. He's still got the anger and fury, but he's more poised, more fatherly, more like a dad." Because of this, Juarez tells us, he had to balance the performance so that it was concincing while, at the same time, keeping it cool.
Juarez also mentions that these changes were good for the franchise and Kratos since he's now got a son, a legacy and he's already had his revenge. "
Its time to move on and conquer other worlds.
Maybe it's time for redemption, why not?"
He then talks about the importance of having the game dubbed in other languages. He says that "
it is important we have voices in Portuguese and Latin American. The immersion is greater when you play a dubbed game. You see different things in a scenario, within the game, rather than when you play with your eyesight lowered to see the subtitles."
So, how does Mr. Juarez feel about working on the project? Well, he's more than proud of it and mentions that "
the best part of doing the new God of War was playing Kratos. I have no words to describe how I felt doing this project."
He says that he most thrilling part is to know how high the expectations are for the game.
"
Everybody wants to play this game. Everybody is waiting for this game. Many people believe this is going to be the game of the year. I'm one of them. "
After the
amazingly positive reviews the game has got, there's no doubt in my mind the game is already a strong candidate for game of the year. That is if fellow Sony game,
Spider-Man, doesn't take the title away from the
God of War. Whataver the case, it's us fans who win.
His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive…And teach his son to do the same. This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative—and fuses them anew.
God of War will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 4 when it releases on the 20th of April.
