This year's
God of War will be finally released next week, setting the action for the first time in the series' history in Norse mythology, abandoning the well-known world of Greek myths. According to Sony Santa Monica’s senior online community strategist Aaron Kaufman, the potential sequel of
GOW "
2018" will be also set in this northern world, focusing on Kratos' new, difficult role of a father.
"
Chapter 1 is what we are calling Kratos’ college years and the angry, vengeful years." Aaron Kaufman explained,"
Now this is a Kratos who thinks, "I have a son. I'm learning how to be human. I'm not forgetting Chapter 1, but I'm moving forward and pressing the forward button."
The developer also have good news for the PlayStation 4 owners who has never played a single
God of War game before and would like to start with this year's installment. "
I think even for a lapsed fan or a new fan, there's just a human instinct to think, "I have to play God of War I, II, III so I understand this, right?” You know, there's some movies out there that go with a number in their title and I’m a little worried to watch them at all because I think I will not be up to speed. Even though, when I watch it, I actually feel like, "oh, this was great. It was standalone."
As you can see, the developers from SIE Santa Monica Studio are treating
God of War "
2018" as something totally new, a game more similar to Naughty Dog's
The Last of Us than the previous games with Kratos, and we will have a chance to examine this drastic change relatively soon.
From Santa Monica Studio and creative director Cory Barlog comes a new beginning for God of War. Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamiliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.
God of War launches on April 20th exclusively for PlayStation 4.
