Last year,
Naughty Dog confirmed that the Factions multiplayer mode from the first
The Last of Us game would be returning in
The Last of Us Part II. A couple of months ago, some official fine print related to
The Last of Us Part II was discovered which
seemed to reveal that the game wouldn't support online multiplayer.
It has now been officially confirmed that
The Last of Us Part II won't feature a multiplayer mode after all. Emilia Schatz recently participated in an interview with
USgamer. Schatz is the lead game designer for Naughty Dog and told the site that they're focused on the single-player aspect of the highly anticipated sequel rather than any sort of multiplayer.
“We're focusing on a single-player experience, so we're just making a single-player game for this,” Schatz told USgamer. Following this, the site reached out to Sony to confirm this news and it was unfortunately proven to be the case.
Factions MP was just as well done as the single-player of
The Last of Us. Fans of the mode can only hope that it will be added after the game's launch — given Naughty Dog will be done working on the single-player at that point.
Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors. When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.
The Last of Us Part II will release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on the February 21st, 2020.
