Following the debut of The Last of Us Part II gameplay footage, co-directors Anthony Newman and Kurt Margenau confirmed that the sequel will indeed feature the return of Factions MP. Hit the jump...
Naughty Dog has confirmed that The Last of Us Part II will see the return of "Factions MP" which featured in the first game.
Sony's E3 press conference saw the premiere of gameplay footage for The Last of Us Part II, which you can check out below, as well as some personable cinematics - which showed off the game's incredibly stunning graphics.
The showcased gameplay was an exerpt from the singleplayer mode, which makes sense considering that the first game's rich story is what sold most people on it in the first place, but it did leave some rightly wondering whether the game will feature the acclaimed "Factions" gamemode which featured in the first.
As of now, The Last of Us Part II's trailers have centred wholly around the story mode or more specifically, Ellie. Outside of the trailers there hasn't been a single mention of multiplayer by anybody credible - that is until now.
Speaking to Gamespot, the game's co-directors Anthony Newman and Kurt Margenau outright stated that Factions will be returning.
"Factions is coming back," Newman confirmed before fellow co-director Margenau continued: "Multiplayer is coming back. We're not going to talk details yet about what form that takes, but we can confirm there will be multiplayer."
Going off Margenau's statement, it will most likely be a while until we find out more in regards to any kind of multiplayer mode - but at least, for now, we know there will be one.
What do you think about the co-directors' statements? Are you a fan of The Last of Us' multiplayer mode?
