THE LAST OF US PART II: New Update Releasing This Week Is Bringing Back Grounded Difficulty

PlayStation has released a new video for Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II, which reveals that Grounded Difficulty is making a comeback in an update that will be rolling out this week.

The Last of Us Part II was finally released mid-June of this year, after a long wait since its announcement in December of 2016, and the game was already setting records in pre-order sales. A mere three days after its release, Sony announced that Naughty Dog's survival-horror title had already managed to sell over 4 million copies.

What makes this even the more impressive is the fact that leaks, that gave away pretty much the whole story, had discouraged fans from getting the game; some going as far as cancelling their pre-orders, and planning to boycott The Last of Us Part II's launch.

While many still attribute The Last of Us Part II's impressive sale numbers to the first game being so well-received, it is undeniable that the leaks made some players even more excited to see if they were real or not, and if the story was "as bad" as the leaks suggested.

Bottom line, The Last of Us Part II has been selling phenomenally, and it was only a matter of time until the developers decided to add some more content to the game, and that's exactly what they are doing — announcing that a new update expected to roll out later this week will add some new, and exciting features.

FIrst things first, this update will become available on Thursday the 13th of August, and will be completely free for players to download. This isn't an ordinary update either, as it is actually adding quite a tonne of content that will definitely give the game some much-needed replay value.

Naughty Dog confirms that Grounded Difficulty is making a comeback, as well as a brand-new Permadeath mode — which, as suggested by the name itself, makes deaths permanent; meaning that players will only have one chance to beat the game without dying, although there are some ways around this with the addition of checkpoints.

The developers are also adding a bunch of filters and game modifiers to The Last of Us Part II, which include filters like sepia, noir, and even 8-bit that will make the game look like a classic video game from the 80s. Not enoug? Naughty Dog also reveals that players will also be able to modify in-game sounds to give the game a different feel.

With the update's announcement, PlayStation released a video that will give players a better idea of what to expect from it once it becomes available in just a few more days. More information about this upcoming update has been shared on Naughty Dog's official website, so be sure to check it out by clicking right here.
