For the second time in April, the PlayStation Network is experiencing extended outages. The company acknowledged the recent outages yesterday via the PlayStation Blog, and had the following to say by way of update:
While we are investigating the cause of the Network outage, we wanted to alert you that it may be a full day or two before we’re able to get the service completely back up and running. Thank you very much for your patience while we work to resolve this matter. Please stay tuned to this space for more details, and we’ll update you again as soon as we can.
The "hacktivist" group Anonymous launched distributed denial of service attacks against the PlayStation Network earlier this month, intermittently bringing down the PlayStation 3's online functions. The attacks were in response to the company's since-settled legal battle with hacker George Hotz. Hotz was responsible for distributing the PS3 master key online. The attacks were apparently called off due to the negative impact they were having on Sony's customers, rather than the company itself.
