Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was one of the games that Insomniac Games — PlayStation's somewhat recently acquired studio — unveiled during the special PlayStation 5 presentation last week, alongside MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and is one of the games that looked more visually impressive.
The reveal trailer for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, while a proper trailer through and through, actually felt like a tech demo that showed off what the PlayStation 5 could do — as it was one of the few games that actually provided some gameplay for players to sink their teeth into.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart's gameplay trailer had our titular heroes jumping from one dimension to the other. What's fascinating is the fact that it all looked like a cutscene, when it was actually all playable — since the game was seemingly loading new playable stages as the characters travel through different dimensions.
Insomniac Games not only release an exciting announcement trailer for the game, but they also had Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Creative Director Marcus Smith talking giving players some details about the game itself, and how the PlayStation 5 made it possible for them to virtually remove any loading times between stages; or dimensions, in the case of the gameplay trailer.
According to Smith, the whole concept of dimensional jumping in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart would not have been possible had it not been for the PlayStation 5's SSD(Solid-state Drive) that allows developers to make the game's dimensions load instantaneously; something Smith reveals could've not been possible to do in previous generations of consoles.
Smith also mentions that the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller is tailor-made for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, providing players with tactile feedback when using weapons, as well as letting them know how these weapons are behaving in general.
Today PlayStation has released that same video that was shown during the presentation, and after the announcement trailer for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, for everyone to watch, and get excited for the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive title.
Give it a watch:
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is currently in development for the PlayStation 5.
