According to a recent report by Kotaku the long-desired ability to change your PlayStation Network username is on the way.
The report states that three seperate developers have corroborated that Sony informed them to prepare their games for a coming system update which will enable players to change their online display name. Below is an excerpt from the afformentioned report:
Three people at three different game studios. speaking anonymously because they were not authorized to talk to press, said that in recent months they’ve been fixing bugs, tweaking settings, and ensuring that their games are compatible with Sony’s plans. A fourth person who worked for a game studio shared a photo, obtained from internal Sony documentation, of a PSN profile containing the option 'edit username.' The documentation was a guide for changing one’s name on the PlayStation Network, that person said.
The option to alter your username has been asked for basically since PlayStation Network's inception. PC and Xbox players have had the ability for quite some time, but Sony have seemingly only just given the idea the time of day. Given how finicky the system is behind-the-scenes, we shouldn't expect the option to be available as soon as next week, but rest assured it appears that it is finally in-development.
What do you think of the rumour? Would you like to be able to change your PSN name?
