Sony, Square Enix, and Crystal Dynamics recently revealed that the PlayStation version of the upcoming MARVEL's Avengers will be including Spider-Man as a post-launch hero, which will only be exclusive to players who play the game on the PlayStation 4 and its next-gen counterpart.
The news itself has not bode well with players in general, since MARVEL's Avengers — unlike the Insomniac Games-developed MARVEL's Spider-Man — is not a console exclusive title, and Xbox and PC players feel it is unfair for the game to feature exclusive content; even more aggravating is the fact that only Sony will get exclusive content.
Recent information has revealed that this could become somewhat of a trend, and that Sony consoles will be getting even more exclusive content in the near future which is particularly good news for PlayStation owners.
Before we continue, it is important to note that this information is still considered a rumour, even when the source is actually very reliable.
According to video game industry insider Imran Khan, former senior editor at Game Informer and current host at Kinda Funny Games, has revealed on a Resetera thread that Sony has approached every major third-party studio out there, and are paying quite handsomely in order to get more exclusives moving forward.
"There isn't a major third party out there Sony failed to approach asking what kind of deals they could work out. Some had content, some had games, some had content and games. It is not like Microsoft was not willing to offer, they just didn't want to pay the asking price, because Sony approached with pretty high numbers in the first place," Khan revealed.
"That 'PlayStation Advantage' branding and 'Console Exclusive' wording are both going to get a lot of use in the next few years," he concluded.
Yesterday we reported that Sony had released a new trailer for MARVEL's Avengers, listing the advantages that players will be getting for playing Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' upcoming title on PlayStation consoles. That's the "PlayStation Advantage" branding Khan is alluding to, and it seems that it will become a more prominent thing during the next generation of consoles.
Sony going after all of those third-party exclusive titles and content further proves that the developer is sparing no expenses, and they are really fixed on making the PlayStation 5 the console where players will get an experience that they won't find elsewhere.
