Back in January, a 4chan user who claims to be involved with Konami supposed that Sony is looking to acquire the
Metal Gear Solid,
Silent Hill, and
Castlevania brands from Konami. Of course, a random person on 4chan making claims it hardly notable nor reputable. However,
Jack of All Controllers recently bolstered this claim — stating that their own sources have verified the information.
With Kojima Productions under Sony's care, you would think that they would provide Hideo Kojima with both Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill — as he is responsible for creating the former and was developing an instalment of the latter when he departed Konami.
Well, a separate site called Rely on Horror recently reported that multiple Silent Hill titles are being developed at Sony. It's said that SIE Japan Studio is working on a Silent Hill reboot while Kojima Productions is at work on Silent Hills. However, this report is under the impression that Sony was merely licensing the rights to the horror series.
On the Castlevania side of things, it's said that SIE Japan Studio would reboot the series as something along the lines of From Software's Bloodborne. While this is all certainly interesting and tantalising, they're just rumours.
All the puzzle pieces seem to slot together well but that doesn't mean they're real nor that anything will come of them. Especially since Konami giving up the rights to three of gaming's biggest franchises seems like a stretch — but that probably depends on what Sony's offering. If this story develops, we will be sure to let you know.
