The long-awaited PlayStation 5 is likely set for release in 2020, and if a current rumor holds true, then gamers might have to spend $500 to become one of the first to own the console when it becomes available at retail stores.
We understand the information came from an alleged developer who is currently working on a game for the system. Apparently, this particular developer has a lot of insider knowledge, and he’s not afraid to reveal what is known.
Interestingly enough, the developer says that despite the $500 price-tag, Sony aims to sell the console at a $100 loss for a while. We’re not sure what that means, but no doubt the Japanese giant will clarify, granting the information is legitimate.
When it comes down to the size of the hard drive, the leaker claims 2TB is the magic number. It’s not yet certain if that’s a regular hard disk drive or SSD. Chances are, it might cost too much to bundle a 2TB SSD drive, but time will tell.
Now, based on the specifications revealed earlier, it would be very hard for Sony to release the PlayStation 5 at $400. Not to mention, Microsoft has proven with the Xbox One X that selling a console at $500 is not a bad idea.
