For years now, PlayStation gamers have been begging Sony for a sequel to 2015's Bloodborne, or at the very list an HD remake of the beloved action roleplaying game. These requests have largely gone unanswered, but it seems they have no completely fallen on deaf ears.
Developer FromSoftware has apparently been listening and it seems they've cooked up a spiritual sequel to Bloodborne. The new game is called The Duskbloods it's set to launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
To be clear, The Duskbloods is not a sequel to Bloodborne. But you'd have to be blind to not notice the similarities. From Yharnam's gothic architecure to the Victoriana aesthetics to the religious iconography, this is about as close to a Bloodborne sequel as you can get without it beind the actual title.
We don't have many details about The Duskbloods yet, although Nintendo describes it as a "brand-new multiplayer game by FromSoftware."
FromSoftware titles are traditionally single-player action RPGs although technically speaking, they all support multiplayer in some limited capacity. This description makes it sound like multiplayer will be at the forefront of the game though.
This would be the second multiplayer-focused title by FromSoftware. Launching in May of this year is Elden Ring Nightreign, a standalone cooperative action RPG set in the same universe as Elden Ring.
Surprisingly, The Duskbloods doesn't appear to be a multiplatform title. The trailer confirms a 2026 release "only on Nintendo Switch 2."
It's possible that it could be a timed console exclusive for the Switch 2 though. This means it could launch exclusively for the Switch 2 in 2026, but eventually come to PlayStation and Xbox at some point afteward, typically a few months after release.
Regardless, it's amazing to finally see a Nintendo console get proper third party support. Nintendo is not typically known for getting major blockbuster releases from third-party developers, but the improved hardware of the Nintendo Switch 2 now makes it possible.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch this year on June 5th for $449.99, so we'll have to wait a bit before we can play The Duskbloods on it. But this definitely seems to be a game that should be on every FromSoftware fans' radar.
Now the big question, does this new game announcement finally inspire Sony to get the ball rolling on a Bloodborne sequel or remake?
