Last year, Sony PlayStation decided to opt out of attending E3 2019. It seems that they're planning on pulling the same schtick this year too.
According to a new report by
VGC, multiple sources claim that Sony aren't planning to attend E3 2020. However, some sources believe that negotiations are still ongoing — which means that there's still a chance that they will show up at the annual gaming convention.
“As far as I know, they don’t plan to attend,” Industry analyst Michael Pachter told the site that he doubts Sony will show up.
“I think that’s a huge mistake, as their ‘focus on the consumer’ is not inconsistent with their attendance at the premier industry trade show. I hope they change their minds, but I'm skeptical.”
According to VGC, Xbox doesn't think that PlayStation will be present either.
"We understand that Xbox’s events team is working under the assumption that PlayStation will not be at E3 2020 and upping its plans accordingly."
Sony PlayStation managed to sit out of last year's E3 without coming to harm. Therefore, it only stands to reason that they would at least consider doing it again. What's more is that they now operate their own presentations called State of Play which means that they could hold their own seperate event — as they did last year.
Interest is clearly high in the PlayStation 5 — as just the simple
image of its official logo managed to become the most popular on Instagram, topping even the full reveal of Xbox Series X — and Sony have many highly-anticipated exclusives on the way. They've certainly got enough going for them that they could hold their own all by themselves.
