Last month, Sony sparked rumours that the PlayStation 5 will feature a voice-controller artificial intelligence that's capable of helping you out in-game — similar to Apple's Siri, Microsoft's Cortana, and the Amazon Echo's Alexa.
This was because Sony filed for a patent for something called
"PlayStation Assist" which will supposedly be included as a part of both the company's next-generation video game console as well the official PlayStation app —
find out more on that here.
What with
a bunch of exciting information about the PlayStation 5 having been officially announced and confimed earlier this week,
WIRED recently asked Sony themselves about the rumoured AI feature. However, Sony wouldn't provide the site with any answers. Instead, the company decided to neither confirm nor deny whether the PlayStation 5 will include such a feature.
"We'll talk more about it another time," said system architect Mark Cerny. Furthermore, a spokesperson later told WIRED the following about their question.
"We file patents on a regular basis and like many companies, some of those patents end up in our products, and some don’t."
Either Sony are simply not ready to announce anything but absolutely plan to include the feature or they're simply experimenting with innovative ideas. We'll just have to wait until that other time which Cerny referred to — perhaps the yet-to-be-confirmed PlayStation Experience 2019 event or E3 2020.
