Artificial intelligences have begun to invade our homes! Don't worry, though, at the moment they're only capable of playing music and adding items to your shopping list.
According to a new report by a Dutch website named Techtastic (via
Game Rant), Sony has shared some examples of something called
"PlayStation Assist," that will apparently be included with the PlayStation 5 and added to the official PlayStation App. It's an AI akin to Amazon's Alexa, Microsoft's Cortana, and Apple's Siri.
While playing a video game on the PlayStation 5, you will be able to literally ask the AI for tips such as where you can find decent loot in-game or directions to your objective. The assistant will comply, access Sony's servers, and find the requested information.
On the PlayStation App, PlayStation Assist will be able to show statistics to the player such as the total amount of time they’ve been playing a game and when they started playing.
Though a lot of this seems very speculative, Sony have filed for a patent to do with PlayStation Assist. It's not too drastic a jump from previously reported features such as environmentally-friendly power usage, cross-generation play with the PlayStation 4, and substantially reduced load times. Though, of course, remember that none of this is official.
