In one of the most unexpected cross-platform moves in recent memory, Gears of War is officially coming to PlayStation 5. And now, players across all platforms will soon get a chance to try it early via an open beta for Gears of War: Reloaded kicking off on June 13. Check out the new trailer down below:

As announced during today’s Xbox Games Showcase, Gears of War: Reloaded is a remaster of the original 2006 classic, completely rebuilt with modern graphics, revamped multiplayer, and full cross-platform support. But perhaps most surprising is that this iconic Xbox exclusive will be available on PlayStation 5 when it launches on August 26, 2025.

The open beta will be available across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation and will span two weekends, starting on Friday, June 13 with the second weekend being Friday, June 20th. Access will be granted to:

  • Anyone who pre-ordered Gears of War: Reloaded
  • Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass PC subscribers
  • Owners of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition (2015 remaster)

This marks the first time that Sony players will get to experience the legendary Lancer chainsaw rifle, cover-based shooting, and gritty sci-fi warfare that defined Xbox’s early dominance in the shooter genre.

Beta Rumors Confirmed

While the announcement is now official, fans already suspected a beta was in the works. As spotted on Reddit, users noticed a new file uploaded to SteamDB, the popular database that tracks Steam backend updates. The beta listing included the familiar Gears logo and End User License Agreement (EULA), even after the file was renamed "PenPL” to obscure its identity.

This beta period is expected to act as a server stress test, ensuring smooth performance and crossplay functionality ahead of launch. While exact maps and multiplayer modes haven’t been confirmed, players can likely expect classic Versus and Horde action rebuilt in Reloaded’s upgraded engine.

Gears of War: Reloaded A New Era for the Franchise

Gears of War: Reloaded is more than just a visual overhaul it’s a new chance for a generation of gamers to experience one of the most influential shooters of all time. With cross-platform multiplayer, remastered visuals, and the backing of Game Pass, Xbox and PlayStation fans alike can now gear up together.

The full game launches on August 26, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, and PC via Steam and Game Pass.
