The long-speculated Persona 4 remake may finally be stepping out of the shadows. According to new reports from MP1st and corroborated by Windows Central, Atlus is set to officially unveil the highly anticipated remake during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, June 8, as part of this week’s Summer Game Fest.
The remake is reportedly being developed for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. While there's no confirmation yet regarding a Switch 2 version, its absence from the early leaks doesn’t rule it out entirely but there is sure to be more details that will be revealed during the event.
While Atlus has not formally commented on the project, sources suggest the remake will follow in the footsteps of last year’s critically acclaimed Persona 3 Reload, which modernized visuals, refined combat, and smoothed out the original’s pacing for modern audiences. If this report is accurate, fans can likely expect a similar level of overhaul and care for Persona 4, one of the most beloved entries in the franchise. It is also worth noting that the highly-regarded Persona 3 Reload was also revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2023. So, seeing a Persona 4 Remake revealed at another one of Microsoft’s shows seems like a reasonable bet to make.
Interestingly, the Persona 4 remake has been circulating in headlines not just for leaks, but for controversy. Several original voice actors, including Yuri Lowenthal (who voiced Yosuke Hanamura), have publicly shared that they were not contacted to reprise their roles. In a now-deleted Bluesky post, Lowenthal wrote, "And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.”
The news sparked concern among longtime fans about potential recasts, though it's worth noting that Atlus has previously recast voice actors in remakes such as Persona 3 Reload. Whether this trend continues remains to be seen, and no official casting list has been confirmed yet.
All eyes are now awaiting on what we will see during Sunday’s Xbox Showcase, which kicks off at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM UK, where fans hope to finally see the official debut of the Persona 4 remake after months of speculation. Whether you're nostalgic for Inaba’s mysteries or new to the world of Persona, the next chapter for this iconic RPG could happen this Sunday.
