The next batch of free PlayStation Plus games is right around the corner. Now that May has arrived, PS Plus subscribers can look forward to some new games to download.

Unfortunately, because the first Tuesday of the month — which is when new PS Plus games arrive — isn't until May 7th, we have to wait a little while before we can download them. But let's take a quick look at what will be available to download starting next week.

Kicking things off is EA Sports FC 24. What used to be EA's FIFA series has been rebranded after Electronic Arts' partnership with FIFA concluded. But this isn't just a new name. EA Sports FC 24 is said to mark a new beginning of "the future of football."

The two big talking points this year were HypermotionV and PlayStyles optimized by Opta. HypermotionV is the next evolution of Hypermotion technology, tracking volumetric data from 180 matches to create the most fluid and realistic gameplay simulation while on the pitch.

There's also PlayStyles, which aims to better represent the real footballers' unique styles. There are 34 PlayStyles into six categories that represent various roles in a squad.

All this fancy technology aside, EA Sports FC 24 boasts 19,000 fully licensed players, 700 teams, and 30 leagues including men's and women's UEFA Champions League. The game will be available to download on PS5 and PS4, although only the PS5 version utilizes HypermotionV.

For those looking for something a bit less sports-y, we've also got Ghostrunner 2. A sequel to the 2020 hit, this first-person action platformer set in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk future ramps up the action with combat improvements, non-linear levels, and new modes. Ghostrunner 2 introduces complex motorbike sections and new abilities to help you deal with various encounters, although the enemies you encounter will behave differently depending on the skill used on them. Ghostrunner 2 will only be available for PS5.

2022's fantasy action-adventure Tunic will also be free this month. The award-winning indie title is set in a fantasy world where players control an anthropomorphic fox on a journey to free a fox spirit trapped in a crystal. The game was praised for its beautifully crafted world of shady forests, sprawling ruins, and labyrinthine catacombs. Tunic will be available for PS4 and PS5.

Rounding out May's PS Plus offerings is Destiny 2: Lightfall. The 2023 expansion for the long-running online shooter introduces the technologically advanced human city of Neomuna on Neptune. It is on this planet where players can discover a second Darkness subclass, the Strand, while defending the city from the advances of the exiled Cabal emperor Calus.

With Destiny 2: The Final Shape coming on June 4, this is the perfect opportunity to jump back in and experience the latest major expansion for the game. Newcomers may be a bit lost with everything going on in the story at this point, though. Story aside, Destiny 2 has some of the best shooter mechanics in all of gaming, so it may be worth a shot. Destiny 2: Lightfall will be available for PS4 and PS5.

All four of these games can be claimed next week on Tuesday, May 7th.
