Ubisoft Predicts That Next-Gen Consoles From Sony And Microsoft Will Launch In 2019

Eighth generation of video game consoles broke the old order, as both Sony and Microsoft decided to "cheat" a bit. Last year, Sony released an upgraded PS4 called "Pro" and just yesterday the Xbox One family has extended with a brand new, "the most powerful console ever". Xbox One X. Nintendo also tried to catch up and after the commercial failure known as Wii U, the Japanese company released Switch which reminded everyone why we love Nintendo.

During an annual investor call, Ubisoft CEO Ives Guillemot predicted that a new generation of consoles should visit our homes on holidays in 2019. Guillemot asked about his prediction on the upcoming consoles said: "We think we have about two years before something else is coming." It's pretty unclear what "something else" meant, but it's hard to imagine Playstation 4 More Pro or Xbox One XL.

It's possible to release the next step of console gaming in two years. In 2019 both PS4 and Xbox One will be six years old. Besides PS3 and X360, it's a pretty good age to go into a console retirement.
