Sega has really been a crowd pleaser this year with the release of
Yakuza Kiwami 2,
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life,
Sega Ages, and even the re-releases of
Shenmue I & II. Now they can add two more titles to that list as they will be remastering
Yakuza 3,
4, and
5 for the PlayStation 4.
Back in March we got an announcement trailer for
Yakuza Kiwami 2, which is a remastered version of the original Yakuza 2. This came right in time for fans of the franchise to experience the story while they were waiting for the release of
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life that came out on the 16th of April in the West.
Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is also the final chapter in the series, so it is great news that Sega have finally announced that Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 will also be getting their remaster for the PlayStation 4. Now players will be able to have all 6
Yakuza games on one platform and enjoy the whole collection in 1080p and 60 frames per second.
The release dates for Japan are as follows:
-
Yakuza 3: August 9 for 3,990 yen (includes soundtrack download code)
-
Yakuza 4: Fall 2018
-
Yakuza 5: Spring 2019
According to
Gematsu, the
Yakuza 3 remaster is already at a 90% completion so it should be ready just in time for that August release in Japan. Hopefully the games will be localised soon for the West but given their latest track record when localising
Yakuza games, we should probably aim for a Holiday release for
Yakuza 3, as opposed to
Yakuza 4, and
Yakuza 5 that will likely come out during Q2 of 2019.
Whatever the case, this is great news for fans of the
Yakuza series that will now be able to enjoy all 6 titles with beautiful HD graphics at 60fps on the PlayStation 4. In the meantime fans can look forward to
Yakuza Kiwami 2, that is coming to the West on the
28th of August.
