The review embargo for Tomb Raider still hasn't lifted, leading many fans to wonder if this is going to be another disappointing video game adaptation. We'll have to wait and see what happens on that front but in a recent interview to promote the movie, lead star Alica Vikander made it clear that she thinks it's "questionable" that there are so few female characters involved in the plot of the reboot.

"It has set up for that a bit, which I’m very excited about, of course, that is if the audience
want to see a further adventure but, yeah, I agree,” she said when asked if we could see a larger female cast in the sequel. "It’s this whole company in the film that we meet up on this island and I’m like ‘why didn’t they hire any women to go on this expedition?’ that, I think, was a bit questionable, so I do hope if there is a further adventure it’s going to have a lot more female characters involved."

In the 2013 video game Tomb Raider is based on, Lara Croft is joined on her island expedition by Yamatai Samantha Nishimuri and Joslyn Reyes, two characters eliminated entirely from the movie. Director Roar Uthaug has attempted to defend that decision by saying he wanted to focus on the father/daughter relationship but it's clear that if a follow-up happens, changes need to be made.
