Famous for her work on Solo: A Star Wars Story, Fleabag, and the upcoming Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has revealed her upcoming project with Amazon! She's set as both a writer and executive producer for an upcoming Tomb Raider series, according to THR.

In an effort to create a linked universe akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, THR also stated that Amazon has plans to produce a new Tomb Raider movie and at least one additional video game. Though they have not broken it down much further as to what their plans entail.

The Tomb Raider series is a popular action-adventure franchise that follows the adventures of a British archaeologist and adventurer, Lara Croft. The series began in 1996 and has since grown to include multiple sequels and spin-offs, as well as a successful reboot in 2013. The games typically involve exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat as players take on the role of Lara Croft, navigating through tombs and ruins in search of ancient artifacts and treasure. Along the way, players must overcome various obstacles, enemies, and dangerous creatures, all while uncovering the mysteries of the past. The games have been praised for their strong storytelling, challenging gameplay, and iconic protagonist, making it one of the most popular action-adventure game series.

Classic Tomb Raider

After Angelina Jolie's portrayal in the 2001 movie adaptation, we recently had Alicia Vikander following in the 2018 Tomb Raider video game saga. Since Shadow of the Tomb Raider in 2018, there haven't been any new Tomb Raider games, although Lara Croft has just begun to resurface.

Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones are like two peas in a pod, except one is a British archaeologist with a knack for dual pistol-wielding and the other is an American archaeologist that likes bullwhips. Both are treasure hunters, both love ancient artifacts, both have an affinity for tombs and ruins, and both have a habit of getting into trouble and narrowly escaping death. Two sides of the same coin, with one being a bit trigger-happy and the other a little whip-happy. But at the end of the day, they both just want to uncover the secrets of the past and look good doing it.

Amazon recently inked an agreement with Crystal Dynamics to create a new game in the series, in addition to new Power Wash Simulator DLC that let players clean her ostensibly filthy mansion.

The $300 million purchase of Square Enix's western studios by Embracer Group included Tomb Raider, as well as the Deus Ex and Thief titles, among others.
