Back in July of 2018, Dark Horse Comics announced that they were working on a book for
The Legend of Zelda's latest entry in the series titled "
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Creating a Champion". Nintendo and Dark Horse Comics have a history of collaborating to deliver high quality products; particularly based on
The Legend of Zelda.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Creating a Champion book was released in the West back in November, and recently we have found out that the western release does away with Link's family, for some odd reason; especially because it is still part of the official concept art, which isn't absent in the Japanese release.
While Link's family did not end up making it into the game, it is still a strange decision to completely remove it from the western release of the book which, according to
GamingReinvented, has been replaced with a generic map from the game.
In the removed image, we see Link next to what seems to be his father and younger sister. Over the years, we have seen other iterations of the character having a family; most notably Link's unnamed uncle in
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker — which introduced us to Link's grandmother and his little sister.
The reason why Dark Horse Comics or Nintendo decided to exclude Link's family in the western release of
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Creating a Champion book is still a mystery; one that may never get solved, sadly.
No kingdom. No memories. After a 100-year slumber, Link wakes up alone in a world he no longer remembers. Now the legendary hero must explore a vast and dangerous land and regain his memories before Hyrule is lost forever.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
