Upon release, Halo 5 received generally positive reviews from critics and players, with praise directed at its satisfying gameplay, pretty visuals, smart level design, and varied multiplayer modes. However, the game was far from perfect, as its single-player campaign was considered too short with a lackluster and anticlimactic ending. The fact that the classic split-screen multiplayer wasn't featured in 343's last game probably didn’t help the title from being labeled as a fun, but overall forgettable experience.

Halo: Infinite might have a chance to win hardcore Halo fans over, as 343 announced that new features are coming to their next Halo during a Mixer stream, including the long-awaited 4-player split-screen mode. According to the studio, the split-screen play will finally return thanks to the power of their cutting-edge Slipspace Engine, as the PC version is apparently a priority for the development team.

343 has also decided to take a step back and take a closer look at Bungie's approach to designing their games, focusing on the best-reviewed Halo: Reach, which also was the very last Halo game made by Bungie. For example, the team is planning to focus heavily on customization, taking lessons directly from Reach, which had the most detailed customization options of any game in the acclaimed series.
