Back in June, we learned a live-action Halo series was officially in the works at Showtime, with Kyle Killen (Awake) attached as showrunner and Rise of the Planet of the Apes' director set to helm a few episodes.
Since then, we haven't heard much about the project, but that didn't stop many from saying the series could potentially be to Showtime what Game of Thrones is for HBO. However, when the network's president of programming Gary Levine was asked if he thought Halo would match the HBO drama at the TCA event, he had an interesting response: "It will be our Halo."
This comment from Levine makes it clear that, while Showtime probably wants the series to be a success like Game of Thrones, they don't want Halo to just feel like a sci-fi version of the HBO program.
Still, Showtime CEO David Nevins did say that they "want to make sure we get the inside human drama,” which is one of the many things that extended Game of Thrones' appeal beyond fans of the fantasy genre.
