During this year's edition of E3, we learned that Ubisoft still loves the
Splinter Cell brand. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot promised that one day we will see the return of Sam Fisher and his friends, but despite some leaks (hi there, Amazon Canada), we still have to wait to hear more regarding
Splinter Cell. The fact that the creators of
Blacklist from Ubi Toronto are currently busy finishing the development on
Starlink: Battle for Atlas suggests that the Fourth Echelon won't strike back anytime soon.
Game Informer recently had a chance to chat with Ubisoft chief creative officer Serge Hascoet and it sounds like the studio would love to launch new
Splinter Cell and even
Prince of Persia games (the last game with the Persian duke, the underwhelming
Forgotten Sands hit the stores eight years ago).
"I love Splinter Cell. I love Prince of Persia," Hascoet said. "
I can't disclose any information at this time, but I can say we are fighting for resources. It's not a question of will, it's a question of means."
It took Ubisoft almost 15 years to announce a sequel of
Beyond Good and Evil, so it's clear that the producer likes to take his time and make sure that each game has a chance to be successful enough. Ubisoft recently announced
The Settlers reboot (the last major game of the series launched in 2009), so there's a chance that the fans of
Splinter Cell and
Prince of Persia will have to wait a bit longer.
