Xbox has honored the late Akira Toriyama by adding a new dynamic dashboard background featuring Xbox 360's Blue Dragon.
Although Toriyama is best known for creating Dragon Ball, he was the character designer for several popular games, including Blue Dragon, Chrono Trigger, and the Dragon Quest series.
Blue Dragon is a role-playing game developed by Mistwalker and Artoon and published by Microsoft Game Studios for the Xbox 360. It was released in Japan in 2006 before coming to North America in 2007.
The game is based on a design by Final Fantasy series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and is set in a fictional open-world environment with a story focused on five friends as they travel the world to confront Nene, the evil ruler of the Grand Kingdom. The setting inspired separate animation and comic adaptations.
Akira Toriyama passed away earlier this month at the age of 68 years old. The cause of his death was an acute subdural hematoma.
"It's our deep regret that he still had several works in the middle of creation with great enthusiasm," Bird Studio and Capsule Corporation Tokyo wrote in a statement. "Also, he would have many more things to achieve."
"However, he has left many manga titles and works of art to this world," the statement continues. "Thanks to the support of so many people around the world, he has been able to continue his creative activities for over 45 years. We hope that Akira Toriyama's unique world of creation continues to be loved by everyone for a long time to come."
Toriyama's passing was felt across multiple industries with many people and businesses from across the world paying tribute to the legendary creator and artist. Toriyama was one of the most important authors in the history of manga, but it's clear that he had an influence in the world of video games with his designs as well.
The official PlayStation Twitter account also posted an image while thanking Akira Toriyama for his work.
Although Blue Dragon was released over a decade ago on the Xbox 360, fans can still play the game and experience Toriyama's work thanks to the backward compatibility feature on Xbox Series X|S. The game, despite its age, runs great on Microsoft's new console.
