The third chapter of the
Crackdown series was announced at E3 four years ago, and Microsoft recently officially confirmed rumors as
Crackdown 3 won't launch in 2018. The game used to be made by British developers from Reagent Games and Sumo Digital, with the explosive series creator David Jones being involved in the project, and published by Microsoft Studios for Xbox One and Windows 10.
According to Polygon, Microsoft is no longer working with Jones or Reagent Games on
Crackdown 3. “
We’re just working with Sumo [Digital] right now,” said Microsoft Studios head Matt Booty. “
That’s our main development partner. And as you know, I’m sure you know, any game has got a number of folks that come in to help us with content and some development, but Sumo is our main partner on Crackdown.” Sumo recently co-developed
Forza Horizon 3, the
Hitman reboot and
Team Sonic Racing.
Crackdown 3 is currently being made by Cloudgine, the company that specializes on cloud computing to Epic's Unreal Engine, Ruffian Games, the creators of
Crackdown 2 who are working on multiplayer, and finally Sumo Digital developing the single-player campaign. It sounds like The Big M is now using their own cloud technology to power the Wrecking Zone online mode in
Crackdown 3.
Enter Crackdown 3’s sandbox of mayhem and destruction and become a Super-Powered Agent dedicated to Justice by any means necessary. Explore the heights of a dangerous futuristic city, cut through gang-infested streets in a transforming vehicle, and wield amazing abilities to dismantle a ruthless criminal empire. Developed by original creator Dave Jones, Crackdown 3 will deliver cooperative chaos and an all-new multiplayer mode where destruction is your ultimate weapon against friends and rivals online. Whether you’re playing the all-new Campaign or enjoying a truly revolutionary competitive experience, you’ll never look at open-world gaming the same way again.
Crackdown 3 will be released for Xbox One and PC in 2019.
