The E3 announcement that the Korean sandbox MMORPG Black Desert was coming to the Xbox One was somewhat surprising, although the title isn't a true exclusive as it will also hit the PS4 at a later date. The game started out on the PC, being released in Korea, Japan and Russia in 2014 before being released on Windows in North America and Europe in 2016.
What sets the game apart from traditional MMORPGs is that the action required manual skills, rather than point-and-click as the combat has been compared to Final Fantasy XV. The game's light story focuses on four areas, Calpheon, Serendia, Balenos, and Mediah and the quest for the mystical Black Stones. Valencia is the most wealthy region as their Black Dessert, harbors the greatest amount of Black Stones while Calpheon is a region that doesn't produce any Black Stones.
As of March 2017, there were a total of 3.4 million players playing the PC version in North America and Europe.
