For those unfamiliar, the
Tales series, referred to in Japan as the
Tales of series, is a long-running franchise of fantasy role-playing video games. They first launched in 1995 with
Tales of Phantasia in Japan for the Super Famicom (Super Nintendo) and are published by Bandai Namco Entertainment (formerly Namco). The games were developed by Namco Tales Studio until 2011 and presently by Bandai Namco.
Over the years the
Tales series has gained a huge fanbase, which is understandable as the franchise boasts a whopping
sixteen main titles. On top of that, there have also been numerous spin-offs and supplemetary media. Because of its massive success, the games even get their own event dedicated to them in the form of the
Tales of Festival. The 2018
Tales of Festival took place yesterday at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan, and it was there and then that we got the exciting news.
There has been a bit of a lag since the introduction of the last main title in the
Tales series when
Tales of Berseria was released in 2016, and that's why it is such a relief for fans to hear that it has been officially announced that a new title is in development. The only detail that we are able to get at the moment is that Bandai Namco is currently working on the newest
Tales of title for consoles, as that was announced at the festival. Nevertheless, this should serve as a sigh of relief to those who were worried when they heard the
Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition announcement at E3 and no word of a new adventure.
Are you a Tales fan? What's your favotie title? Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition comes to consoles this Winter!
