The majority of critics have agreed that Sea of Thieves was quite enjoyable thanks to a fun cooperative mode that forces players to plan and play together, but the main problem, the repetitive and simple gameplay, which just like No Man's Sky's gets old fast successfully killed the replayability value. Similar to Hello Games' project, Sea's world is enormous in scope but there's not much to do in it.
Developer Rare will try to fix some of Sea's issues in The Hungering Deep free expansion. Players will have a chance to check out a special time-limited campaign starting tomorrow, as you will follow the trail of riddles and rumors to piece together what happened to 'Merry' Merrick, the proud owner of a pair of matching peg legs. The campaign is only around for a limited time, but it's not clear how long.
Rare has prepared new features like the drum, ship's flags, speaking trumpet, and selectable tattoos and scars, and all of them will remain in-game. Sailors will face a new threat, a monstrous peril which won't be easily vanquished. Just like No Man's Sky NEXT, The Hungering Deep brings some new features to the core, unfinished game. The question whether it's not too little, too late still remains.
Sailing and fighting, exploring and looting... the pirate life awaits you! Enjoy total freedom in a shared world bursting with buried treasure, ancient shipwrecks and thrilling ocean battles.
