The Sea of Thieves closed beta kicked off on Xbox One earlier this week, but server problems have rendered it unplayable for some. In some cases, players have only been able to access the trial very recently, with some who pre-ordered the game digitally being met with a "too early message." Though Rare began rolling out a fix for the issue, it took longer than anticipated to reach all affected players.

In response to the issues, developer Rare has now extended the game's beta by two days; it is now scheduled to end on Wednesday, January 31 at midnight Pacific time.

For those who participate, the beta doesn't allow full access to the entire open seas, as Rare wants to keep some secrets for launch. Instead, we have a "bespoke experience that offers a true taste of the pirate life and a great chance to get your sea legs ahead of March 20!"

As a reminder it is a closed beta, available only to those who joined the Sea of Thieves Insider Program prior to December 1, 2017 or pre-ordered the game. The good news is that there is no NDA, so if you aren't able to participate, there's plenty of footage to give you a taste of pirate life. Sea of Thieves releases for Xbox One and PC on March 20.
