A Utah Librarian Embezzled Over $89,000 To Spend On The Popular Mobile App GAME OF WAR
It's not unheard of for a player to spend a lot of cash on a mobile game, but one Utah librarian took things to a whole new level when he embezzled money to spend on Game of War. Hit the jump for more details.
Game of War first launched back in 2013, and with a marketing campaign that featured celebrities like super model Kate Upton, it quickly became one of the most popular mobile games on the market.
Similar to many other mobile games, Game of War has a number of in-app purchases, which aren't too costly on their own. But like these other titles, it's incredibly easy to rack up a high bill after multiple purchases.
Thus, in an attempt to avoid burning a whole in his personal wallet, Utah librarian, Adam Winger used a city credit card to buy items in Game of War. But by the time authorities caught wind of Winger's activities he had spent over $89,000.
In June, the 38-year-old librarian pleaded guilty "to theft, a second-degree felony, and forgery." As a result, he will "serve 30 days in jail and complete 100 hours of community service," but before this, Winger will "pay $78,000 in restitution."
While it's easy to laugh and shake your head at the man's decision, some are speculating that Winger may be suffering from video game addiction, which was finally classified as a serious mental health disorder by the World Health Organization back in June.
