STAR WARS: FATE OF THE OLD REPUBLIC Director Addresses 2030 Release Rumors

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic will launch before 2030. That's according to game director Casey Hudson who responded to online rumors following the game's reveal this past week at The Game Awards.

One of this year's biggest surprise announcements, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is narrative-driven, single player RPG in development at Arcanaut Studios, a new game studio comprised  of veteran developers whose past work includes Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the Mass Effect trilogy, and major studios such as Microsoft, Epic, Remedy, and The Coalition.

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was revealed with a cinematic teaser trailer and some top-level details. Described as a spiritual successor to 2003's acclaimed classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the game's initial description teases what sounds like an ambitious project

"The fate of the galaxy is in your hands in a narrative-driven action RPG where you step into the role of a Force user on a journey through a galaxy on the edge of rebirth," the description reads. "Blending innovative storytelling, memorable characters, and heart-pounding combat, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic immerses you in an unforgettable experience where every decision deepens your journey toward light or darkness."

While the reveal was met with incredible excitement by fans, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier tempered expectations by predicting that the game will be be released until 2030. He specifically pointed out the fact that Arcanaut Studios only officially formed in July of this year.

Last night's biggest surprise was Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, led by Casey Hudson, who directed KOTOR (and Anthem). Exciting news for lots of people... but Lucasfilm says the studio was founded this year, which means that 2030 is an *optimistic* guess. Maybe it'll be a PlayStation 7 game

With Schreier's "optimistic guess" began to gain traction, game director Casey Hudson took to social media to address the rumor. He assured fans that the game will be ready to go before 2030.

As it currently stands, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is in "early development," so it does look like we'll be waiting a few years, even if it may be sooner than 2030.

With so much excitement surrounding the project, I'm hoping it won't be complete radio silence like we've seen with other Star Wars projects, such as the KOTOR remake and Eclipse.
