According the latest reports, Blizzard is working on at least two projects that will drastically expand the
Diablo universe. Unfortunately, the American producer has only revealed one of those games so far, mobile
Diablo Immortal. The title was announced earlier in the last month, during the BlizzCon 2018 opening ceremony and instantly became one of the biggest subjects of controversy of 2018.
As revealed in a new Kotaku write-up,
Diablo Immortal was originally going to be released exclusively to Chinese audiences. “
Essentially, it exists because we’ve heard that China really wants it. It is really for China.” an anonymous developer working at Blizzard said. Apparently, the company had deiced to create a China-only title mostly because the quality bar in the Chinese market is extremely low.
“
You can release something that’d be considered alpha footage here and it’d be a finished game there,” other Blizzard employee continued. As we know it, Blizzard ended up deciding that they would polish up
Diablo Immortal and release the mobile title globally in one go. Let's wait and see if polishing this title will urge the global, mostly western, audience to give
Diablo: Immortal a chance.
Enter the world of Diablo Immortal, a new entry in the Diablo universe. Taking place between the events of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction and Diablo III, this mobile massively multiplayer online ARPG is a true Diablo hack-and-slash adventure, all in the palm of your hand.
Diablo Immortal will launch for iOS and Android in 2019.
