While the newly-announced Command & Conquer: Rivals (officially unveiled on 9 June 2018, during the first day of EA Play) is already getting torn apart online and its teaser remains the most disliked trailer that debuted during E3 2018 with over 50, 000 dislikes on YouTube alone, the fan backlash doesn't stop EA from expanding its ever-growing mobile empire with the acquisition of Industrial Toys.
EA announced yesterday that Industrial Toys, a creative team of experienced game makers based in California, is joining the company. industrial was founded by Alex Seropian, former CEO of Bungie Studios and former executive at Disney Interactive. During the development of Halo: Combat Evolved, Seropian noted that Bungie had to incorporate new features such as surround sound and cinematics.
“Creating breakthrough games takes passionate developers and incredible creativity, and each time we’ve worked with the Industrial Toys team, we’ve been inspired by their unique approach,” said Samantha Ryan, SVP and Group GM in EA’s group. “We’re thrilled to have them join our studio organization, pursue new ideas together and bring amazing new games to our players.”
The studio has worked solely on mobile titles since opening its doors across both iOS and Android devices, launching games such as Midnight Rises, an interactive graphic novel produced by John Scalzi and Marvel and DC’s Mike Choi, first-person shooter Midnight Star and its 2016 sequel Renegade. Currently, there are no further details on what titles the 14-person studio will be working on.
