The Angry Birds movie was a moderate success and a Fruit Ninja movie is in development. But the other mobile video game giant, Candy Crush, is turning to television. According to The Hollywood Reported, CBS has placed a straight-to-series order for a new reality game show which will be based on the popular mobile game. It will be developed by Matt Kunitz, who previously created Wipeout and Fear Factor. The game is described as "teams of two will have to use their wits and physical agility to compete on enormous interactive game boards, which CBS says will feature next-generation technology, as they conquer Candy Crush and are crowned champions. A host will be announced at a later date."
Launched in 2012, with over 2,000 levels, Candy Crush and its spin-off, Candy Crush Soda Saga, are two of the top 10 grossing mobile games in th US. Said Kunitz, "The Candy Crush franchise lends itself perfectly to the kind of larger-than-life, physical game shows that I love to produce and CBS is the perfect home for it. As a Candy Crush Saga player myself, I am excited to amp up the action and visuals in our huge Candy Crush Arena."
Acitvision Blizzard acquired Candy Crush developer King Digital back in November 2015 for $6 billion.
