X-Men '97 made its highly anticipated debut today on Disney+ and Kabam is celebrating the animated series' return in MARVEL Contest of Champions.
Unfortunately, it's not any new content inspired by the series, but rather a specially created trailer, X-Men: The Rise of the Mutants.
The trailer takes us to Asteroid M, the orbital space station created by Magneto, where we find the X-Men duking it out with various foes. We see Wolverine square off against Sabertooth, and Colossus versus The Juggernaut as the two attempt to outmuscle one another. We also get appearances from Jubilee, Toad, Cyclops, Rogue, Omega Red, Gambit and Magneto.
The characters appear as the versions we see in the original animated series and engage in an action-packed battle that lasts around a minute. It's a fun little nod to X-Men '97's debut
The Battlerealm has been home to many mighty Mutants who have passed through the doors of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, both as friends and foes.
In addition to the trailer, Kabam is giving new and existing players in-game rewards and giveaway opportunities, starting today and running through the duration of Season 1.
MARVEL Contest of Champions is a free-to-play fighting game available on iOS and Android. The game receives regular content updates with the most recent one on March 14 introducing The Serpent. The Destroyer is set to arrive on March 28.
All the power and fury of some of the most fearsome foes from Asgard have come for the potential represented by the World Tree. Cul Borson, The Serpent, has brought powerful armor known as The Destroyer and he shall not stop in his pursuit of power. The Contest needs a hero, it needs saving, it needs someone nuts enough to step toe to Tippy-Toe with a god. Luckily for us, Squirrel Girl is on the case.
On the animated series front, X-Men '97 now streaming on Disney+. The first two episodes — "To Me, My X-Men" and "Mutant Liberation Begins" — are available now, with new episodes dropping weekly on Wednesdays.
X-Men '97 picks up directly after the events of X-Men: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992 through 1997, with the X-Men facing dangerous new challenges following the loss of their leader, Professor X. The new series currently sits at a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
