With Thor: Love and Thunder less than two weeks away, the marketing for the film is in full effect. This includes everything from social media to funny interviews, not to mention plenty of trailers and TV spots.
When it comes to video games, however, the gain is mutual. Not only does Thor: Love and Thunder release more promotions ahead of the movie's debut, but it also provides more playable characters in those games as well.
Such is the case with Marvel Contest of Champions with their newest upcoming additions. Those being Valkyrie, the drunken heroine and King of Asgard, and the villain of the movie itself, Gorr the God Butcher.
Gorr the God Butcher and King Valkyrie are only two of numerous characters in the game - with more than 200 already available to be added to your roster, with a small fraction being Thor-related, whilst still forging its own corner of the game's universe.
As far as Thor: Love and Thunder and Ragnarok the MCU films inspired the addition of the characters of Korg, Hela, Odin, and Loki. That's not to mention the Guardians of the Galaxy characters from the upcoming film with Rocket, Groot, Drax, and Star-Lord.
Valkyrie is obviously more well-known given her previous appearances in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame, but just in case anyone needs a refresher or wants to know exactly what this game's version has to offer, their character bio below.
Former leader of the mighty Valkyrior, and recently crowned sovereign of New Asgard, Valkyrie has long been a bastion to the Asgardian people against the evils of the Nine Realms. Possessing superior strength (even among Asgardians) and armed with the powerful weapons, training, and tactics of the Valkyrior, she is an excellent leader and a steadfast warrior. Her conviction, though scarred by loss, is stronger than ever, and she is ready and willing to protect the Asgardians of the Battlerealm.
As Christian Bale has yet to make his big-screen debut as Gorr until Thor: Love and Thunder and The Marvels come out, we additionally included the God Butcher's character biography below for anyone uninitiated and interested.
Gorr the God-Butcher grew up on a harsh world, where belief in the gods kept his people from falling to despair. But after his family perished to the deadly environment, Gorr became disillusioned and swore vengeance against the gods that never came to help him or his people. He later obtained the powerful Necrosword, and gained the ability to control dark magic and shadowy constructs. He uses these powers to wreak havoc, destruction, and death on any and all that would call themselves gods.
