Fans of
Pokemon Go have shown that the game truly is for people of all ages, the popularity of it allowing for continuous updates including everything from better play options to more available Pokemon to catch. In fact, since the game launched in July of 2016, three more generations have been added to the game, totalling over 400 Pokemon that can be caught.
Another addition that has come about in
Pokemon Go is the Community or Event day each month. Not only do these bring people out of the house and get players to meet one another and work together, but they also give players a chance to earn something special - usually a rare or shiny Pokemon. This month,
Niantic is giving everyone a Holiday treat with a shot at shiny Gengar, and although four day's late, its
technically still the week of Halloween, so no harm, no foul there.
In Generation II, shiny Pokemon made a huge splash with the introduction of red Gyarados, and in
Pokemon Go the aspect certainly makes hunting more fun. The thing about shiny Pokemon, is that they are much rarer than normal Pokemon when it comes to finding them, and beyond that you may not even notice right away that you've caught one. Depending on the type of Pokemon, they all have different colors that they change to, some obvious like Gyarados, while others are almost unnoticable (like Gengar).
So what's the catch? If you're out and looking for a shiny, just pay attention when they first pop up, as well as after you catch them. Looking closely, players will be notice stars circling a Pokemon's head if it's shiny. To help with your luck, you'll want to catch the same Pokemon in a row over and over. Each time you do it makes it more likely that you'll find a shiny, but you are unable to interrupt with catching another Pokemon or you will break the streak.
That's the good thing about tomorrow, Gengar will be available for an entire three hour block as a Raid Boss, where you can challenge him as many times as you have Raid Passes (you can earn five tomorrow). This means the best chance at finding a shiny Gengar is by repeatedly fighting the Gengar raids during that time period. The following is a listing of when Gengar will be available across different regions.
-
Asia/Pacific: 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM JST
-
Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM UTC
-
The Americas and Greenland: 11:00 - 2:00 PT
It is important to note that this raid will be different than normal Gengar raids battles in
Pokemon Go. While Gengar would normally pose a three star threat as a raid boss, he has been temporarily promoted to four stars. This is most likely so that the raids won't be able to soloed or duoed easily.
What do you think? Is it worth it to head out and find a Gengar or are you tired of Halloween already? Let's hear it in the comments!
