Despite dead bodies being found and muggings taking place, Pokemon Go has been an unprecedented success for Nintendo, with the a massive 25% increase in the company's stock price following the game's US launch. As a result of that, Legendary Pictures is said to be moving towards a deal to acquire the rights and make the live-action Pokemon movie fans have been dreaming about for decades.
It was back in April we first heard that they were interested in the property, but the trade adds that the deal, "has gotten a giant second wind since the release of the new app." A deal has not yet been closed, but it sounds like things are now heading in that direction, with Max Landis (Chronicle) rumoured to be in the running to end up penning the screenplay should the project move forward.
It's still early days for this one, but a live-action Pokemon franchise has massive potential and could spawn almost countless sequels and spinoffs. The question now is, will it revolve around Ash Ketchum or an entirely new cast of characters and Pokemon? Time will tell, but start getting excited, folks.
