A large Pokémon GO festival was slated to be held in Chicago, IL's Grant Park last July but was unfortunately canceled due to technical issues on Niantic's end.  The festival had a projected attendance of over 20,000 individuals and with a $25 admission fee, ticket revenue alone was projected to total over $500,000 USD.  Tickets for the event sold out in minutes which led to inflated scalpers re-selling on eBay for nearly $400 USD.

As part of the settlement, Niantic has agreed to repay any incurred costs (such as travel and lodging), which comes after Niantic previously provided a full refund, $100 of in-game currency and free Legendary Pokemon.

Of course, Niantic reportedly earned $890 million in revenue in 2017 and $950 million in 2016 (the year the mobile game was launched) so most gamers agree that the developer isn't scoffing at forking over $1.6 million.
