Pokemon Go has been quite the phenomenon since the game's initial inception into society back in July of 2016. Since then the game has evolved (so to speak) and has added a number of features that have not only brought in new players, but also rekindled the flame in old players who may have found the game a bit stale in the beginning.

Since the game's launch, Pokemon Go has added new Gym and Pokestop features, Raid Battles, a barrage of items, research tasks and rewards, obtainable Legendary Pokemon, Shiny and Alolan versions of Pokemon, and let's not forget two more generations with over 230 additional Pokemon to capture. One of the mainstays of Pokemon Go out of the newer features is the monthly Pokemon Go Community Day event, which we're here to detail today.

Each month Pokemon Go has a huge Community Day event where Trainers gather at parks all around the world to soak in all the rewards of the day and also chase after the featured Pokemon in hopes to get a shiny. During a Pokemon Go Community Day event, it's much easier to capture shiny versions of your favorite species than it is any other time, because catching the same Pokemon in a row increases your chances, and the featured Pokemon during the event is basically always on your screen during the three hour window.

For the month of July Trainers are looking at one of the most popular Pokemon of all, a starter and from the very first generation of video games. Hailing all the way from the Kanto region is the playful and devious Squirtle, and in turn that means for the first time, Shiny Squirtle will be available in Pokemon Go, and this also means that any of the Blastoise you evolve during this event will learn a special move, which has yet to be revealed.

In addition to these features, trainers will also have the added benefit of their eggs hatching in a quarter of the time, and any Lure Modules thrown onto Pokestops to attract additional Pokemon will last for three hours, spanning the entire length of the event. As usual, there will also be a special Community Day box available in the Pokemon Go store.

If you somehow have missed out on the immensely popular craze, you can catch the trailer for Pokemon Go below.

Do you have what it takes to be a Pokemon Master? Fill up your Pokebags and head for Shiny Squirtle during July's Pokemon Go Community Day event, July 8, 2018 from 2-5 PM EST.
