Niantic Labs announced on Thursday that it would be co-creating a reference design solution for a groundbreaking pair of smart glasses.
The company is credited with creating the popular mobile AR games
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Ingress, and
Pokémon Go - and has been very successful in doing so, at least with the latter. They will be working with Qualcomm to mix hardware, software, and cloud services, using a just-announced ARVR Snapdragon XR2 chip for phone and PC-free headsets.
Available headsets of the type are extremely expensive due to the technology and are targeted at those who can afford to pay the ticket price - but it seems like Niantic and Qualcomm are looking to do the opposite by creating a pair of glasses that can be utilized by the everyday gamer. While there may be no release date as of yet - this is interesting and welcome information for anyone who likes augmented reality.
