Another Marvel mobile game
bites the dust. TinyCo's freemium mobile game
Marvel Avengers Academy will shut down on all platforms at the end of 2018. The announcement was made via an in-game message.
Launched in 2016,
Marvel Avengers Academy tasked players with building the ultimate Super Hero academy and populating it with iconic Avengers characters reimagined as students developing their superpowers.
Although TinyCo will no longer be accepting new purchases or downloads, anyone who already owns the game can play until February 4, 2019, to finish up any remaining tasks and hopefully get some closure. To assist you, TinyCo has given away 2500 Shards and other materials you can use to finish missions, quests, and more.
“Thanks to you, ‘Avengers Academy’ has been a community where Marvel fans have been able to conquer the dance floor, eat cheese, punch Hydra in the face, and put penguins in places no one thought penguins could go,” TinyCo said. “‘Avengers Academy’ was a collaborative partnership between TinyCo and Marvel Games, and we are proud of the game and community we’ve built together.”
TinyCo, who is owned by Jam City, went on to say that this decision will allow them to "better focus on new and innovative games," though nothing formal has been announced. Jam City is the studio behind the recently launched mobile game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery and also recently entered a deal with Disney to develop titles based on Pixar and Walt Disney Animation franchises like Frozen 2.
