It seems that Paramount Pictures' upcoming
Sonic the Hedgehog movie hasn't only disappointed fans, as we have learned that the main programmer for the first
Sonic game wasn't too happy about the character's new redesign; although he is willing to give the movie a chance.
Recently, Naoto Ohshima — the man who envisioned and designed the blue hedgehog, has taken to Twitter to express his disappointment with the movie, claiming that he wants to love
Sonic but is worried after watching the trailer.
On Twitter Ohshima said that he's loved all iterations of
Sonic, and as much as he wants to love the new design he is worried that adults(he probably means long-time fans) will likely not have fun with this movie. He also is concerned that the movie's only goal is to make money, not to deliver a quality product that fans can enjoy.
What's even more itneresting is that Ohshima has also drawn the new
Sonic and given him some slighlty more traditional proportions, making the character's face look a lot better than the end product.
There is still time until the
Sonic the Hedgehog movie releases, so there is still time to make some changes to the character in order to make him look more like the games. Hopefully it's not too late but, as of now, they've already alienated long-time fans, and even the character's creators.
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into theaters on the 7th of November.
