In just seven days from now
Detective Pikachu will be officially releasing into theatres across the world. The highly-anticipated, live-action
Pokemon movie will star Ryan Reynolds as the titular creature and Justice Smith as, his human companion, Tim Goodman. With Tim mysteriously able to understand Detective Pikachu, the duo team-up in order to solve the mystery surrounding the the former's missing father.
The film has been quite anticipated since its first trailer debuted almost six months ago and now, with reviews finally releasing online, we know whether that anticipation was warranted and paid off. For those unfamiliar, Rotten Tomatoes is a review-aggregator site. This basically means they round-up verified reviews and calculate a percentage based on how many of them are positive and how many are negative.
Rotten Tomatoes recently put out a tweet (
@RottenTomatoes) which revealed that
Detective Pikachu's initial "Tomatometer" score stood at 67% (meaning that 67% of the 22 reviews were positive). However, this score is quickly rising as more and more reviews are accounted for. At the moment 26 reviews are accounted for on the site and the score now sits at 69%.
The critic consensus attached to the film's score goes as such:
"Pokémon Detective Pikachu may not take its wonderfully bizarre premise as far as it could have, but this offbeat adaptation should catch most -- if not all -- of the franchise's fans." Click here to visit
